Just going through some old pictures that my sisters scanned recently, and I came across one I just had to share. My little sister is 5 years younger than me, and this pic is me, my mom, and my little sis...guess I saw babywearing in action from before I can remember. Little sis would have been about 5 months, and as the youngest of 4 was just carted along for the ride. Yay!

| Week 4, Day One |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|11:51 am] |
Like americanbeauty , I just finished this run. Likewise, I found the three minutes easy, but I slowed it down for the five minute part and lengthened the time a bit to make the full 1/2 mile. It took me 5:40 to do the second 1/2 mile, and though I didn't get the exact time, I think it took me a little bit less time (think seconds) to do the first 1/2 mile. I was paying attention to the distance instead of the time so I didn't note it. I felt stronger the first time, though, so I am guessing I ran a little bit harder. By the time the second 1/2 mile was done, I was pretty well pooped. However, I got today's run done, its doable, and I know I can do it again.
I think biomimetical checked in yesterday, having successfully done it. We just need to hear from paranoiattaque . But it's still early here on the west coast.

| Week 4! |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|02:02 pm] |
I just finished Week 4, Day 1 today! I'm proud of me and you should be too. =)
Last week I was scared of the three minute run, but I did it! Sometimes I thought it was a little touch and go but I put mind over matter and kept on chugging along. Adding two minutes to that three minutes seemed terrifying.
I woke up today with a great attitude (and a weight loss which is always great for motivation) and was determined to get through this five minute run. I was incredibly surprised to find that that the three minute run was, dare I say, easy. The five minute run was more difficult. I checked the time ever single minute during the second five minute interval but I never stopped. Slowly but surely, I did it!
Tiger Woods, courtesy of Nike+, told me I just ran my fastest mile at 13 minutes 9 seconds. I'm also pretty sure today was my farthest workout too. This is exactly why I love my Nike+. Best $30 I ever spent!
It's been an exciting day over here, how about the rest of the Week 4ers? mrj15, paranoiattaque, and biomimetical?? How'd it go? |

I'm starting Couch to 5k tomorrow, and I'm super excited! I've always wanted to be a runner, and I've stuck with it for quite a while at times, but honestly I had no idea how to train properly, so I set myself up for failure. Not this time!
I downloaded Iestyn Lloyd's podcasts and used Garageband to make myself a playlist for week one. I put the mp3 on RapidShare in case anyone's interested..

| So My Japanese Understanding Friends: |
[Nov. 8th, 2009|08:59 pm] |
Does this say something along the lines of "Young girls love artist"? Cause if so, I know that because of a little bit of Japanese, but mostly a lot of Chinese. The idea of being able to understand Japanese through Chinese is AWESOME. |

| Treadmill Question |
[Nov. 8th, 2009|01:38 pm] |
I am planning on starting the couch to 5k plan tomorrow. I've never been good at running and my endurance has always been pretty bad, but I'm excited to get started and hopefully make my way through the program. I really want to start living a healthier lifestyle and shed a few of the pounds that I've gained over the last year.
Since I live up north and it's pretty cold up here at this time of year, I think I'll have to do most of this plan on the treadmill. Does anyone have a recommendation for what speed to put the treadmill on for the various stages of the program? For example in week 1 it says to jog for 90 seconds. What speed would you recommend as "jogging" for beginner runner? Any advice would be appreciated. I know that in the end it'll come down to putting it on a speed that I feel comfortable with that I can maintain, but I'm looking for a jumping off point if anyone has had similar experiences.
Also, if anyone else is just starting/ about to start/ just started the plan and would like to buddy up, I'd love something like that. It would be nice to have someone to e-mail back and forth with about how the plan is going and about diet. If anyone is interested, let me know! |

I move tomorrow! No more Campus Court at Naismith bullshitery! I'm going to be in a tiny room, but I'll have three awesome roommates, be paying $400 less for rent and utilities than I'm paying now and I won't have to deal with asshole landlords! <3
Still in disbelief that Nick is letting me move in, but holy crap am I ever grateful. He can expect an awesome Christmas gift or something because its the least he deserves for not only letting me move in, but letting me move in with super duper short notice.
Omg I need bed now. |

| week 4! |
[Nov. 7th, 2009|05:52 pm] |

So I gave week 4 a go - and managed to get through it! I slowed my pace down, but ended up going farther. I also gave myself an extra 30 seconds walking after the 2nd 3 minute run because I had a slight cramp. I got really really tired after the 5 minute runs, but I got through. I didn't think I'd have to slow down to get ahead, but there we go. Thanks guys. :) |

| Goodbye Week Three |
[Nov. 6th, 2009|01:42 pm] |
Week three, day three done. Not so bad, but it seemed a bit harder today than it did on Wednesday. I added an extra three minute run at the end again, even though I was tired. Looking forward to Monday with anticipation and trepidation. Hopefully biomimetical will join americanbeauty , paranoiattaque , and me on week four.

I began Week 7 today, and it was my second 25 minute run. It was significantly easier than last time! It was still no walk in the park, lol, but definitely not quite as taxing as last week. 2.5 miles! Here I come 5k!! :D |

| Just Start Over? |
[Nov. 6th, 2009|07:24 am] |
Hi everyone, just wanted to ask your advice.
I'm in week 2 and I went for my second session on Monday but only lasted 12 minutes of intervals due to an ankle injury six months ago. I've stayed away from the gym since then.
Would you recommend to resume with week 2 when I get back to the gym, or go back to week 1 again? I was okay the first run on week 2, but I was just not doing well the second run.
Thanks!
